Can an employer deny you employment because you changed your name?

I changed my name entirely because I’m the victim of domestic abuse and I went through the court system to change my name. In some apps they ask you about any past names used so I write down my old name, obviously the employer is not going to share this info with anyone.

Anywho, my new name is entirely different, can an employer deny me employment because of this?
