Suggestions for a resume for a stay at home mom??

My best friend is splitting from her husband and needs to redo her resume so she can find a job. She has been a stay at home mom for the past 12 years. Any suggestions on how to fill that gap?? Or any samples of resumes that we can look at would be great.

TELL HER TO ONLY LIST HER JOBS AND WHEN ASKED AT THE INTERVIEW SHE CAN SAY SHE WAS A HOIMEMAKER FOR 12 YRS. IT IS NOT TO BE PUT ON THE RESUME………………….I WISH HER LUCK IN HER JOB HUNTING!!

Just list employment on your resume. Any one interviewing a prospective employee will certainly inquire into the gap of employment dates. Believe me, hearing there’s 12 year gap because you became a stay at home mom is the best answer you can give. Many people respect that. They mainly want to make sure you weren’t out of the work because of workers comp, injury or incarceration.

If she did anything like volunteer at the local school or ran the local charity, she can use that as proof that she has done work related things in the interim. She can even use her mom-experience, such as juggling schedules, etc.

Have her look at the microsoft web site, downloads, templates. They have some great resume templates, sample cover letters and such, and it’s free.

I would indicate that she has been a stay at home mom on the resume, don’t make people guess why there is a gap of 12 years. Put something in the cover letter that simply tells the prospective employer “I have been a stay at home mother for the past 12 years and am ready, willing and anxious to return to the workforce.”

I agree with the answers the others have put on here. Also get her to list the “skills” she did when working as a stay at home mom. Those skills are transferrable to the regular working world. “managed a household of three for 12 years” is an example. There are plenty of skills that a stay at home mom did that are transferrable as i said – so she should list all the ‘duties’ she did as a mom.
