Teachers, how do you list substitute teaching on a resume/job application?

I’m not really sure the exact way to list it. Since 2003, I have subbed in about a dozen districts. Obviously I can’t list them all on my resume…is it ok to put something like “various districts” or should I just leave out any reference to the location at all?

Also, how would this be handled on a job appliction, when there is a box or line to write in “employer” and “supervisor” (as a sub you don’t have one

I would list a few of the districts, the more recent ones and list what grades you were subbing for mostly. I’d also check the district’s website and see if there is a person in charge of substitues for the district and put down their name and number.

I would pick 3 districts–either the 3 most recent or the 3 that used you the most. In the line that you’re supposed to write in “employer,” write in the person in charge of personnel for that school–usually either the principal or the superintendent. You can also call the school and ask them what you should write.

On my teaching resume, I listed

“Substitute Teacher, Various Schools, MN & IL, 2006-2007, 2001-03″

On an application, I placed it down in about the same way. On my first teaching job I did put down a principal that really like me. There must have been at least 18 districts and two to three dozen schools.

Indicate that you have subbed without a location. For your supervisor place the name of one supervisor and add ( plus others)./
