When writing a resume to apply for a part time job, like working at the mall, do I really need a cover letter?

I’m only 18 and getting a part time job until college starts in the fall. And most people my age don’t even have a resume.

no you don’t but it won’t hurt.It probably will set you apart from the rest of the crowd, which is a good thing.

When applying for a part time job, you really don’t need a resume. Just have your contacts names, addresses, phone numbers handy so you can give complete info on the application.

    Good Luck!

That’s if you want your resume to be presentable

In my opinion, if you are applying for a “minimum wage” job, where pay isn’t that great, like a store in the mall, then I would say you don’t need a cover letter. Just fill out their application and turn it in. I believe that would be enough. However, when you are going for a job in your field, I would highly recommend it. I applied for my job here and had a resume with a nice folder and showed up for all of my interviews in a suit and tie, and out of about 50 applicants, I got the job! =0)

For a p/t job it’s not essential but in todays’ job market I would get a cover letter it definitely won’t hurt & I think you would stand out a little more with it Good luck

probably not. But if you want to, just find a pre-written one online somewhere. however, the cover letter might make you look over-qualified. My friend had a problem with that…She had a college degree and retail stores wouldnt hire her bc she was over-qualified. the cover letter might give off the same impression.

It depends on your resume imo. If you think it’s a good resume, your qualifications will speak for themselves; and like the other answer above suggested, if your resume is a little bit simpler, than it could need an extra resource in order to draw attention.

Take a look at other people’s resume and check if you’re doing better or the opposite! And most importantly, never stop the process of self improvement, learn new languages, master new skills!

    Cheers

When applying for any job, regradless of pt or ft, or the salary. YOu should send a cover letter with your resume. It looks profesional and that you truly want the job.

Most retail places will only ask you to fill out their application. It should give them the information that they need regarding your prior experience and qualifications.

It’s not required but it’s more impressive if you do. You only get one chance to make a great first impression. Use it.
