How do I write a cover letter for a job i’ve already had?

I’m applying for a job at a company where I used to be a student worker (about 8 mths ago). Now I saw that they posted a position which I would be perfect for (since i’ve worked there), but I don’t know what to put in my cover letter.
Should just focus on mentioning the work i did when i was still there?
Or should I just briefly mention it and emphasize more on my education and other work experience?

I would for sure emphasize the work you did previously for them. In my opinion, experience generally beats out education. Education usually just helps you get your foot in the door. If you’ve already done the job or something similar to it, you have an advantage over other applicants and the employer will want to know this.

When you have your interview you can mention the work that you did for the company. There is bound to be someone who recognizes you when you go through the office to human resources. this could be both good and bad, depending on your departure with the company, even if a student worker
