Job Search Myth #3 . . . Internet Postings Now Account For Over 50% Of Hires!

Hey. Let’s face it. Internet postings are fast, easy and free. They’re massively popular. If you don’t believe me take a look at Monster.com or HotJobs.com.


With all the activity on these sites, with thousands of companies worldwide on the lookout for talent, you’d think finding a job through internet postings would be a walk in the park. In fact, I’ve been told by many eager job seekers that internet postings now account for over 50% of all hires.


Now for the bad news. It’s a myth!


According to the most reliable recent statistics, only 3% of job openings are filled through internet postings! That’s pretty tough to swallow when all your friends tell you that’s the way to go. And you’ve spent a lot of time perfecting your resume or online application.


Now, if you’re like most people in the job market, you don’t want to sit around for weeks and months hoping against hope that someone will pick out your resume from the millions that are available online. And yet, we’ve been taught to think that the old-fashioned, traditional way will work for you. After all it worked for your parents.


Well, welcome to the 21st Century! Things have changed a lot in the job market especially since 911 and Katrina.


Today employers’ and job seekers’ expectations have changed dramatically. You have to be in tune with what’s going on in the real world if you want to be a job search success. For example, employers expect job-seekers to know and understand corporate goals. They want prospects to demonstrate how they can contribute in very specific ways.


On the other hand, job opportunities are being created on the spot and you, as the candidate, can be part of the creation process. Above-average deals are the products of above average negotiations where “dollars” is only one part of the total package.


Most importantly, if you want to excel, if you want a superior job with more money, if you want to select your next job rather than settle for it, you must understand and embrace the dynamics of today’s job marketplace.
