Degreed/Paralegal certification. What stones have I left unturned in job search?

I have a BA in History/Pol.Sci and 5+ years of experience in Admin, presentation, and management. My current job is Coordinator for a nonprofit museum that will not offer me benefits that I need. In my search, I can’t get a position for a paralegal job because I don’t have the 2+ years exp. they require. Other positions that I apply to they end up having so many applicants that I get lost in the shuffle. What have I missed? If it helps, I live in the Houston Metro Area. Please Help.

Have you thought about clerking somewhere? You can clerk as a paralegal (kind of like how law students “clerk” during school) but you obviously won’t be paid as much as a paralegal witih experience is paid.

You should also see if you can find a firm that’s willing to train you – sometimes you may need to start as a secretary / paralegal trainee (and not get paid as much as someone with experience) but at least you’ll get the experience.
