5 Tips to Writing a Great Resume

When it comes to getting a great job, one of the first things you are going to need to have is a great resume. Your resume is extremely important, since this is the first thing that the company will see about you. This is essentially your chance to make a first impression. Believe it or not, many resumes actually just end up in the trashcan, so if you want your resume to grab the attention of those that are hiring, you need to make your resume something special. So, the following are a few great tips that will help you to write a great resume.

Tip #1: Make it Appealing to the Eye – First of all, when you are writing you resume, you will need to make the resume appealing to the eye. When someone looks at your resume it should grab their attention right away. Don’t just make your resume bland like everyone else does. Make a resume that is unique, but that still is professional. Remember, the way your resume looks is actually going to say a lot about you.

Tip #2: Avoid Making it Too Long – You definitely are going to want to avoid making your resume too long. No one wants to go through pages and pages of a resume. Usually it is best to keep the resume to one page if possible; however, if you have to you can use a second page. Also, make sure that the statements on the resume are short and succinct as well. You want to say as much as possible with as few words as possible.

Tip #3: Be Sure to use Action words – Action words are going to be extremely important to your resume. Instead of using words that are bland, you want words that grab a person’s attention when they are reading your resume. A few good words to consider include words like monitored, managed, prepared, and developed. This will make your resume stand out among the sea of other resumes they have to look at.

Tip #4: Sell Your Strengths – Selling your strengths is also quite important. Focus on areas that you are strong in so that they are easy to see. More than likely the person looking over your resume is going to spend less than a minute looking over it, so you need to be sure that you highlight and sell your strengths.

Tip #5: Match Their Needs – Last of all, you also need to make your resume match the needs that the company currently has. If you have held positions in the past that are relevant to the job you are applying for, then be sure that you highlight that. Also, use keywords that you will find in their ad to draw their attention and make you look like the perfect person to the job.

Use these five tips on your resume and you’ll be able to create a resume that looks great. Be sure to keep these tips in mind when you are creating your next resume and you’ll be more likely to get a great job that you love.
