Q&A: When writing a cover letter along with a job application, who do you address it to?

Question by alis m: When writing a cover letter along with a job application, who do you address it to?
I’m writing a cover letter to send with a job application but I don’t know whose gonna read it. I’m not sure if to put “To whom this may concern” or address it to human resources or what. Help please.

    If you have a specific person, address it to them. If not, you may use To the Members of the Search Committee, or To Whom it May Concern.

    And it’s Ma’am or Ms. (I prefer Ms. unless you are certain it is a Mrs.)

    It’s always preferred to make a cover letter personal as opposed to “Dear Sir,” or, “To Whom It May Concern.”

    If you can track down the name of a person, that’s definitely better. Even if it’s only someone in the HR Dept.

    It shows a little more interest than just a form letter.
