Will there be a problem to receive unemployment after quitting my part time job?

I was receiving full unemployment benefits for about 2 weeks after I got laid off. I found a part time job and my benefits were reduced. I recently quit that job after about 3 months due to my boss never paying me on time. My question is, when I send this claim form this week and there is nothing in the earnings area like there has been for 3 months, will I have a problem or will I just receive my full amount?

  1. Common Sense says:

You may have a problem. They don’t like it when you quit a job.

Unemployment is generally based on you leaving a position “through no fault of your own”. That means if you quit it can make you ineligible. If your company wasn’t paying you when they were legally required to, you need to be sure to let the UI office know that you left because you were unsure of when you were going to be paid as you were consistently paid late, and it was causing you personal hardship.

Also, because unemployment laws differ depending on what state you live in, you need to check your rights and responsibilities with the state that you were working in.
