Do you ever feel like your job is killing you? While some people may think you’re just being a drama queen, you may actually be right. Many studies have been done over the years that show that job stress is indeed linked to your health. Increased job stress can lead to many illnesses and even cause premature death.

Some people may be more at risk for dangerous levels of stress on the job, but the good news is that there are ways for both employers and employees to reduce job-related stress. Stressed out employees should try to eat a healthy and balanced diet, get plenty of rest and get some exercise several times a week. It can also be helpful to use relaxation techniques, talk with friends and simply laughing can also reduce stress. If necessary, counseling may also help ease the stress.

Forty percent of workers surveyed said that they work in an extremely stressful environment. Twenty-nine percent said they feel extremely stressed out while they are working and 26% say they often feel burned out by their jobs. People who work in a hostile work environment are more likely to die from job stress, as are middle-aged workers who do not have strong professional relationships. Women who have control and power in the workplace are 70% more likely to die from job stress than women who do not hold a position of power at work.
