Learn HOW TO WRITE A RESUME : HOW TO WRITE A COVER LETTER : HOW TO LAND A JOB
Application asks for writing sample?

I am applying for publishing jobs and a few of the jobs ask that I send a writing sample or two along with my resume and cover letter. What kind of writing samples do people typically send for this kind of thing? And what should the length be? I don’t want to ask the companies, but I do want to figure this out! Thanks for any help!

If you have any stories that you have written, or letters. Usually 1 page is good.

It’s vital to have a good resume, it is worth taking the time to write something that looks great and does the job correctly. The site in the box below has lots of information on resumes and help with other careers.

If you’ve had anything published, that’s a writing sample – anything from your college newspaper, for instance. The length doesn’t really matter; just the quality of your writing. They want to know how well you write, what your “voice” is like. If you haven’t published anything yet (although I’m guessing you have), now’s the time to find an outlet – a community newspaper, a nonprofit you believe in, for instance.

Re one of the other responses – this has nothing to do with the resume; it’s a whole separate element of the application process.
