    Dear [their name],

I am writing to apply for the 2nd grade teaching position you have opened for later this year. I have a Bachelors Degree from Texas State University-San Marcos and I have recently graduated. I did two years of student teaching at in San Marcos ISD as a 2nd grade teacher.

I am interested in working at State Elementary School because I have heard of the great education you and your teachers are able to provide for your students. I know that State Elementary School has exceptional records with their TAKS test scores and I would like to be a teacher that can provide the best education for my students. I have studied abroad in countries with very little basic education and was opened to the amount of importance education has on children in their elementary years. I have worked at summer camps for girl scouts and know how to assert myself when direction is needed. I am friendly and outgoing to people I have never met before. My resume is enclosed as well is my teaching certificate.

I would like to have the opportunity to have an interview with you and your staff as for you to better understand that I would be qualified for the 2nd grade teaching position. I will follow up with your school in two weeks with a telephone call. I am available for a visit any day between noon and 5:00pm. I would be glad to provide you with any information that was not included or any information that you would like to know about me. Thank you for your consideration.

    Sincerely,

Dear Mr. (or Ms.) last name,

Start your letter with a grabber—a statement that establishes a connection with your reader, a probing question, or a quotable quote. Briefly say what job you are applying for.

The mid-section of your letter should be one or two short paragraphs that make relevant points about your qualifications. You should not summarize your resume! You may incorporate a column or bullet point format here.

Your last paragraph should initiate action by explaining what you will do next (e.g., call the employer) or instigate the reader to contact you to set up an interview. Close by saying “thank you.”

    Sincerely yours,

    Your handwritten signature

    Your name (typed)
