If I find a job while collecting unemployment how would they find out?

I am collecting unemployment and have found a job in a different state that is only for 3 weeks and doesn’t pay much at all, but they pay for me to get out there and give me a place to stay. I am in really bad financial shape at the moment and need the extra cash. How would unemployment find out about my job? How much trouble could I get into?

They can run a check using your social security number. It is fraud and they will prosecute, I’ve seen it happen.

It will show on your credit report and tax forms. If your job is part time you can still receive unemployment for the days you don’t work. You should ask them though. You could get in trouble for unemployment fraud. You will have to pay the money back and you might not be able to qualify for unemployment again.

Your social security number will be reported if you don’t get cash under the table. They will know you are working and could arrest you for fraud. Good Luck.

Uhhh, they could find out by your social security number and if not by that alone you’re income tax return. Not to mention your state tax, disgruntled or nosey neighbors, jealous family members…etc.

If the job pays very little you have nothing to worry about. You were given an unemployment guide when you registered …refer to that. You are allowed to make money while collecting unemployment. Even if you don’t have the book most states have unemployment websites with the information posted there.

My best advice for you would be to use this time of unemployment to invest in your future. Consider returning to school, learning a trade or starting a small business offering something you are good at. Sounds like the job you have now could turn into a trap that keeps you in poverty forever.

Don’t become a victim of your own circumstances …go after your dreams!! Nows your chance!!!
I wish you the best of luck!!
