I had been applying for jobs close to 2 years using that old resume. My cousin, also an RN suggested I update my resume as well as one of the big job search engines. I bought the book "Real Resumes for Nursing Jobs" and I was so excited to start revising my resume. Now, my resume looks professional and after sending it out I received a call for an interview and got the job. Since, I have loaned out the book to friends who also find it helpful. I found the book to be well organized and had helpful tips in the front section. The tips are fairly basic, no revelations, but as a novice they helped me to focus my ideas and helped me out a few times when I was having writers block. It also helped me from letting my resume get to cluttered. The best thing about the book however is the examples. All the resumes in the book look professional and like a would expect a polished professional resume to look like. There were examples for specific areas and I relied quite a bit on the resumes that were examples for new graduates and for intensive care units. I likes this book much more thanResumes for Nursing Careers Which I didn't end up using much at all. I really appreciated that this book focused just on nursing, it helped me with the specifics of my resume. I am buying my second copy now as I prepare for grad school because I gave the previous copy to someone else. I recommend this! This is the best how-to book resume preparation book for nursing professionals. The best part is that I can use it throughout my career because it contains lots of resumes and cover letters of experienced nursing professionals -- which I hope to be one day!
